W8JI "An antenna with a poor ground using few radials cannot have a support mast grounded to the radial common point at least it shouldn't if designed properly There is no exception to this! Re: zetagi bp problems Post by wa10 » 22 Oct , i have done that lots of times for locals cjay, often there is nothing wrong with one side and sometimes only 1 transistor is damaged. Re: zetagi bp problems Post by wa10 » 23 Oct , i don't mean id bodge a 4 transistor amp to run on one side cjay, i meant fix smaller amps using the good transistors from locals damaged 4 transistor amps as you suggested, i use a full set of the same beta group devices in either 2 or 4 or 8 transitor amps, always check the tabs are flat and lap them in or throw them away if they are not, always radius heatsink screw holes so the tabs sit flat on the heatsink, i won't bodge stuff and get a bad name even when im asked to, im the opposite, you don't get terrible distortion if the resistors can take the heat, each half is a pushpull amp in its own right, i think harris transmitters use a similar idea to make their modules hot swappable and allow continued operation at max output when a module goes down to keep radio stations on the air.

Re: zetagi bp problems Post by savo » 23 Oct , Thanks for the replies, can't believe I was so stupid! Lesson learned!
